Introducing the Journal of Journal Performance Studies
This is the inaugural issue of the Journal of Journal Performance Studies (JJPS). As stated on the front page of the site,
Journal of Journal Performance Studies features works that engage with the performance of academic journals in networked society. We encourage submissions that explore the hidden side of bibliometrics, alternative forms of academic research presentation, and new manifestations of knowledge distribution. To that end, entries in the journal include not only text, but multimedia content as well, attempting to explore the limits of contemporary intellectual representation.
This first issue presents a series of short articles and performances that lay out some of the context of both the journal and affiliated projects in the network, the JJPS Firefox Extension and JJPS Radio. My hope, however, is that this journal expands beyond simply the contextualization of my own work. I sincerely want to encourage others interested in the issues presented inside to contact me; I’m looking for contributions, people interested in becoming reviewers or editors, or others who are simple intrigued about the project. As stated on the peer review page, I am also interested in experimenting with alternative forms of review. It would seem that few are satisfied with the system as it presently exists, and I would like to use this journal as a way to explore alternatives. The process outlined on the linked page is one option of many, and I am open to other suggestions and possibilities.
