Out-of-Sync is a collaboration between Norie Neumark and Maria Miranda. Engaged with questions of culture, place and memory, our practice draws provocations, ideas and material from literary texts and popular cultural forms such as film, TV and music, understanding them as ciphers to even greater mysteries. We treat ourselves as (art) mediums, passing on the strange disturbances and unclear sightings emanating from the vast cultural unconscious. The work that emerges takes many forms, including video, sound, installation and the internet.

Norie Neumark is a sound/media theorist and artist. She is Honorary Professorial Fellow at VCA, Melbourne Uni. Her sound studies research includes Voice: Vocal Aesthetics in Digital Arts and Media, (MIT Press, 2010) and an upcoming monograph, Voicetracks voice, media, and media arts in the posthumanist turn, (MIT Press 2016). She is editor of international peer-reviewed journal, Unlikely Journal for Creative Arts.

Maria Miranda is an artist and art researcher. She is a Research Fellow at VCA, Melbourne Uni. In 2013 she was awarded a research fellowship from the Australian Research Council for her project, The Cultural Economy of Australian artist-run initiatives.  She is author of Unsitely Aesthetics: uncertain practices in contemporary art (Errant Bodies Press, 2013)
